PARENTING - Could You Get All A's As A Teacher?

If you’re looking for a new career path, you might want to consider becoming a teacher. One of the biggest benefits of being a teacher - besides the holidays - is that you don’t need a lot of training. If you already have a college degree, you will only need about one year more of education, and then you can get hands-on experience in an actual classroom. As such, within a year, you could be working in a brand new environment doing something that you love.
But before we examine this possibility, you need to think about whether you are cut out to be a teacher and what it might involve. As well as this, we’ll look at a few perks that you might not be aware of.

You Can Work From Home
Weirdly, you can now work from home as a teacher. Not in every school or academic institution of course, but certainly in some of them. Many schools and universities are now embracing the idea of e-learning. With e-learning, there is no need to be in the classroom. Instead, you can plan your learning modules at home and release them online. You can do this using software such as Captivate. Captivate courses with Training Connection provide all the information you need to make sure you can create your own model and elearning courses. As such, you’ll be able to teach students with very little face to face meetings. So, yes, teaching can be a job that you can complete from home.
About Those Holidays?
They’re probably not as large as you think. A lot of wannabe teachers are under the impression that when the kids are on holiday, they are too. This isn’t entirely true. For a large part of the time when the kids are on holiday, teachers are building lesson plans, marking summer work and even participating in summer school activities. You can’t even guarantee that you can be away from home the entire time because you might have to come in during off periods. So, don’t be so quick to plan that six week trip to Hawaii. Teaching doesn’t work that way. Still, you will get on average more holidays than you would in a typical career.
Is It Difficult?
Again, you might assume that everything you need to know is in front of you or online when you’re a teacher. As such, you may assume it requires very little personal knowledge and again, too an extent, that’s true. But, if you want to earn the respect of your students, you do need to be able to provide them with a tad more information than Google can. You also need to find ways to make your lesson plans both fun and engaging. Otherwise, you will quickly lose the interest of your students. This is the true challenge that teachers face. It’s not about making sure that kids learn the information but rather that they engage with it and find it interesting or exciting.

You Have To Be Good With Kids
But, it’s important to realize that a great parent won’t necessarily make a great teacher. You could be fantastic with your children and still struggle when you have to deal with an entire class. Don’t forget, you need them to respect you, trust you, hopefully like you and perhaps most important of all, listen to you. This requires you to be strict, tolerant, understanding and attentive all in equal measure. As a teacher, you can completely detach yourself, but if you do this, you probably won’t reach that many children. And at the same time, you can’t be overly concerned because then you’re going to step on the toes of parents. It’s a balancing act and one that not everyone is able to perfect.
A Personal Interest
Finally, you have to be interested in what you’re teaching, particularly at a college level. Don’t forget as a teacher, you will be going over the same information over and over again. There’s no way to avoid this, so it’s not just the students that need to find it interesting. You do too. Otherwise, you’re going to be one of those teachers that simply has no passion for their job. If you have a subject that you love whether it’s math, English, science or geography you will excel at being a teacher. Kids will sense your passion and their learning will thrive.

I hope this helps you discover whether a teaching job could be the right position for you.
