How To Avoid A Bathroom Renovation Disaster

Bathroom renovations can be one of the best ways to add a touch of class to an ageing home. There are so many things you can do to a bathroom to transform it into something new and exciting. I often enjoy going through bathroom before and after photos and marvelling at the dramatic changes that took place!

Unfortunately, there are many ways your bathroom renovation can go very, very, wrong! Certain things can happen, leading to an absolute disaster and a bathroom you’re not happy with. Nobody wants this to happen, so here are a few tips to help you avoid a bathroom renovation disaster:

Choose an appropriate flooring
The biggest bathroom error is choosing a flooring that doesn’t suit this room. Bathrooms are unique in that they’re very wet all the time. Lots of water splashes on the walls and floor, meaning your choice of flooring is vital. Don’t you ever choose carpet as this will soak up the water and cause lots of water damage. The same goes for most porous flooring options - they retain too much moisture and will lead to problems. Instead, go for things like tiles that are waterproof and can easily be cleaned!

Get a plumber to install things
Most bathroom renovation problems stem from the wrong people doing the work. If you have no clue about plumbing, don’t try and install your new bathroom fittings! There are loads of pipes and other plumbing fixtures to deal with. The good news is that companies like Crosby Gas and many other plumbers can do this work for you. Some may even handle all other elements of a bathroom renovation as well, which is always handy. But, the key point is that any installations involving pipes need to be done by qualified plumbers. If they aren’t, you really run the risk of things leaking or pipes falling apart - it’s not worth the risk!

Plan it all out beforehand
Finally, as with all home improvement projects, you have to plan this out beforehand. When I say plan, I mean you properly go into as much detail as possible. Get drawings made of what the bathroom will look like, paying close attention to the dimensions. That’s the key point here; you have to ensure everything will fit your bathroom correctly. Too many people have planned a renovation, then realised the bath they bought doesn’t fit their bathroom space. Or, they’ve crammed too much stuff in and have no room to move. All of these problems can be avoided if you take the time to plan everything out and measure the room.

Typically, the big issues with bathroom renovations are that the flooring soaks up too much water, the plumbing is installed incorrectly, and things don’t fit as you expected. By following the three (incredibly simple) tips, you will avoid all these issues. When everything goes smoothly, bathroom renovations are absolutely fantastic. They’re well worth the money, but they do have the potential to go drastically wrong. Ensure yours goes perfectly, and you’ll have an incredible addition to your home.
