Bella Italia was one of the restaurants I visited frequently as a Uni student because they were always offering good deals and I seemed have more spare cash back in the days eating out a few times a week than I do now! Over the years with more and more restaurants opening up in my area it seems to have been more of a forgotten restaurant where I live. I was asked if I would like to visit and to try their newly launched Shot Deserts along with a meal with my hubby of course I said YES!
We got booked in for Saturday evening making it a date night. If I am honest it's been a while since we have actually sat in a local restaurant, we always tend to travel to London for food since there is so much choice and my list of places to try is endless so I was rather looking forward to eating out locally for a change.
We were actually fairly quick in picking than usual and service was fast considering it was a busy Saturday evening and they were fully booked. Peroni for hubby and freshly squeezed orange juice for me while we looked through the menu choices.
Hubby certainly made the best choice in picking these juicy garlic butter king prawns with chili for starters. It was piping hot when served and the prawns were on shell cooked in this flavoursome garlic butter sauce with a sprinkle of chili a wedge of lemon to squeeze over the prawns. We dipped the lightly toasted ciabatta in the sauce and I wish there were 2 slices because there was so much sauce left in dish and we were both fighting over it!
I opt for the calamari and this photo I took didn't really do it justice as the portion was actually a bit bigger than it looks in the photo...this photo looked like there was only 1 piece. haha The squid was freshly fried in a light batter and it came with a garlic mayo and tomato dip and a wedge of lemon to squeeze over the squid. The size of the squid was absolutely tiny, they must have been baby ones so it could have done being slightly larger. I am a huge fan of seafood so I was probably being more greedy more than anything! If you enjoy your seafood then this also comes highly recommended.
For mains I opted for the Agnello Tagliatella slow cooked lamb in red wine ragu with fresh egg tagliatelli and granello cheese shavings. It was slightly dry because there was not enough sauce and the sauce actually fell to the bottom of the plate. The lamb pieces were so soft and tender and the sauce was very good if only there was a bit more, as you can see it was a huge portion. I ordered a side of fried courgette to share without realising how big their portions are.
Hubby on the other hand thoroughly enjoyed his rack of ribs served with chunky chips, corn cob and some onion rings - he cleared his whole plate rather quickly. I actually don't even remember him offering me a rib!
By the time we reached desert we were both rather full so these Desert Shots were perfect size for us to share. They are under 300 calories each and they come in 5 flavours strawberry cheesecake, tiramisu, banoffee pie, cherry panacotta and amaretto chocolate pot. I have to say the strawberry cheesecake and banoffee left me wanting more.
Bella Italia do various offers throughout the year and from my quick google search they are currently offering this deal buy 1 main course and get another for £1. I would definitely head back just for the starter and prob 3 of the banoffee desert shots all for myself! The deal they are offering is perfect if you are going in a group for celeberations, I would highly recommend you booking because they were turning customers away for being fully booked!
Which is your favourite shot if you had to pick: Strawberry Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Banoffee Pie, Cherry Panacotta and Amaretto Chocolate pot.
I think a brownie one of some sort should be added to selection, everyone loves brownies!
