I have been wanting to kick start this "Careers Tips" section on my blog for a while now but so many other things got in the way. I thought it would be a great time to start it now being close to the end of the year a lot of people tend to think about their careers and start fresh in January with the job hunt. A good post to start off with is "How your blog can help with your job search?"
Building an online presence is essential for your job search, you can connect with other professionals in your field or the field you want to move into by expanding your professional network. Your blog can be a great way to get one up on your competition. Your blog is almost like your baby, you put huge amounts of time into creating content that shares your insights / knowledge to show potential employers that you have the ambition and passion about working in the industry. Blog posts takes minutes to read but we all know how much time goes into the photos / writing before a post goes live so it's worth spending the time to promote your content to ensure it reaches maximum audience.
We all love comments on our blog or twitter and the idea is your content should create conversation. By creating conversations either via social platforms it allows you to get to know other industry professions and build an online network. Linkedin is a great way to do this and you will end up connecting with people at all levels. A dedicated following on your blog will also reflect positively on your level of expertise and demonstrate so much to potential employers, lets be honest employers like to hire individuals who well connected!
Set You Apart From Your Competitors / Other Job Seekers
Majority of job seekers do the bare minimum in their job hunt and often wonder why they have not heard back or why they are still looking after a while. Your blog will show employers you are a go getter and you are serious about building a career within the sector assuming you are writing about relevant topics within your industry and it will showcase your expertise in certain areas. If there is a specific company / role you are interested in you can tailor your blog posts so that it demonstrates your suitability for that position. Don't be afraid to put your blog link on our CV / resume.
You can use your blog to build a personal brand. You are in full control of how you present yourself so its essential you put a lot of thought into the topics you write about and the style you use. I think injecting a bit of personality can give employers an insight into the kind of person you are whilst keeping it professional. As mentioned previously by sharing your blog across various social media accounts instagram / twitter / pinterest etc... you can expand your audience and begin to build a name for yourself in the industry.
Over the next 12 months I will try and do 1-2 posts a month in this section on my blog covering various topics from: How to start the job hunt / interview techniques / how to prepare for interview / how to job hunt using social media etc...the list is endless!!!!!
