FOODIE: Spring Menu Over At The Stable Southampton

When it comes to pudding I can honestly say I am not bothered and definitely prefer a starter over a pudding. However when it comes to stables it's the other way round. We visited The Stable last month to see what their spring menu has to offer having visited previously (Stable Opening Southampton Review) when it first opened and a few other times including a leaving meal at work.
The Stable restaurants are dotted around various UK locations and in each of their restaurants there are over 50 ciders and perries to try. The restaurant is serviced by Cider Masters who are happy to give you recommendations or even a sample of a few to try.
I am afraid the lighting got darker and darker as our food came out so the photos aren't the best however it was very very good with a relaxed atmosphere. having. The garlic cheese bread was a little too crispy for my liking this time but otherwise full of flavour and the sprinkle of fresh coriander on top made it very good.
We also ordered a portion of Dorset cured meats to share - slices of air dried pork lion and coppa with pickled cucumber. I love cured meat so this went down well and the pickled cucumber complimented the cured meat very well.
For mains we decided to order a bit of everything to share between the three of us - The Ol' Thumper ragu of rabbit, mozzarella, bath pig chorizo, British roasted leeks and topped off with lord of the hundreds ewes milk cheese - hubby absolutely loved this one! The other pizza choice was the King Canute's Catch - smoked mackerel, severn and wye smoked salmon, spinach, tomato sauce and mozzarella topped with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon. It was a tad salty for me with both the smoked fish but other than that it was great for sharing. We also had a side of Smoked Salmon salad to share which was mixed in with shredded white cabbage, avocado, rocket, orange, roasted mixed seeds, pickled cucumber, white onion, fresh red and yellow peppers, fresh parsley and a citrus vinaigrette - this was full of fresh flavours and very well seasoned.
We finished off our meal with 3 delicious deserts my favourite being the brownie with clotted cream ice cream and the apple and blackberry crumble and clotted cream ice cream. We also ordered the Nutella pizza pudding which was huge, practically the size of the pizza to share. I think this one is best ordered with a bigger group because by the end you are very full and you can probably only manage a slice.
