Hair transplant surgery
is a great way to have your hair restored. However, once the procedure is
complete, there are some things that you need to do in order to make that
surgery a success. Not following them can lead to complications, the worst of
which involves a complete failure of the transplant. Rather than risk these
complications, it’s best to follow the post-transplant instructions from Seager
Hair Transplant. Here are some things to keep in mind.
Stay
Out Of the Sun and Stop Exercising
For two weeks after your
hair transplant, you shouldn’t do any extremely strenuous exercises. You also
need to stay out of the sun. Why? Well, both can impact the healing process,
preventing your newly transplanted hair from taking root properly.
Don’t
Scratch Your Head
Itching means that your
scalp is healing. This is a very good thing. However, you shouldn’t scratch
your head, especially in the area surrounding your transplanted follicles. We,
the people at
http://www.seagerhairtransplant.com/blog/hair-restoration/pioneers-in-toronto/
understand how torturous this can be. However, scratching those itches can
cause damage before the area has a chance to heal.
Wait
48 Hours Before Washing Your Hair
Like with many medical
procedures, you need to keep the area surrounding your transplanted follicles
clean and dry for as long as possible. You should wait until 48 hours after the
transplant before washing your hair, and even then, for the first two weeks,
use a gentle shampoo and lukewarm water. Use caution when rinsing.
Sleep
Upright, Even Though the Position May Be Uncomfortable
You need to keep your
head elevated for the first few days after the follicle transplant. This means
that you’ll have to prop your head up on several pillows or sleep in a
recliner. Do whatever it takes to keep from putting pressure on the
transplanted area. It will heal better is the blood flows to it properly. Too
much blood flow (such as what happens when you place your head facing
downwards) can lead to inflammation.
Keep
Your Hair Long To Hide the Grafts
If you can, keep the hair
around the grafts and missing follicles long in order to cover them up. This
isn’t always possible, but if you have enough hair to cover that area, go ahead
and do so. You don’t want the shadow effect to appear, making it clear that
you’ve had hair transplant surgery. The added protection from your hair will
also keep the sun off of the healing sections of your scalp.
Take
Your Medications
After the transplant,
your doctor will prescribe several medications, usually one for pain and
another to prevent infection. There might be others as well. You should take
them as prescribed in order to make the healing process as painless as
possible. Not taking them can lead to pain, as well as infection.
Only
Place Light Pressure on the Grafted Areas
You might experience some
light bleeding after the procedure. You can stem this blood loss by placing a
clean cloth over the bleeding area and applying a light amount of pressure.
