When you’re an ambitious person and you really want to make something of your career, it may be really important for you to go after your dream job. But that can be a tough thing for you to do. Because when your dream job is in a competitive industry, or you need contacts to break your way into it, or anything like that, you can be intimidated. Maybe you’re worried that you don’t have the right skills yet? Or that you are in a completely different role right now? Well, that doesn’t have to be the barrier that stops you from going after your dreams. Instead, here are five things that you can do to make sure that you land your dream job.
1. Believe That It’s Right
To begin with, you absolutely need to be sure that this is your dream career. Because if it is a hard industry to break into or the job market is competitive, then you have to be really committed to this. As you may find that it can take a while and a lot of work for you to land the job. So be sure. And if you’re not just yet, work out what your dream career might be before you decide to pursue this. And then, you can get to work.
2. Research, Research, Research
When you’re sure, it’s time to start researching. Because if you’re going to break into a new industry, or you want to stand out to land your dream role, you need to work out how. So take a look into what skills you need, or the companies you might want to apply to, or who you might need to network with.
3. Grow & Learn
The next step here, is for you to think about what you need to do to be able to grow and learn new things. Because you may not quite have all of the skills and experience that you need just yet. Or maybe you do, but you just want to enhance your skill set a little ore. So maybe you want to learn Spanish for beginners or learn first aid or taking a communications course? Or, you could do something specific to your industry, field, or the job itself, just to give yourself a step up.
4. Go Above & Beyond
But then also, you may need to stand out. So, ask yourself - what can you do? What do you need to do to make sure that the company you apply for loves you? Can you do extra work, build a portfolio, create an online brand? Just do something to make yourself more competitive.
5. Don’t Quit
And finally, it’s so important for you to realize that you may get a few no’s along the way. And that’s natural. You are not going to land this big, competitive dream job of yours right away. It can take time and you need to be patient - persistent too. Because not giving up, banging on doors, asking for opportunities, and persevering is going to allow you to get there, make the right impression, and land the dream job - whether it takes weeks, months, or years!
